“To Moscow! To Moscow! To Moscow!”: Chekhov’s refrain becomes the starting point of the play. His heroines dream of returning to their homeland, but their hopes and plans are cruelly dashed by reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme of the irrevocable loss of the homeland rhymes with Chekhov’s classic, but is presented in a new reading and interpretation. The monologues, which are still relevant today, are used to illustrate the fate of people in emigration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The play goes through four phases that are painfully familiar to the makers – euphoria, denial, sadness and acceptance – and thus attempts to illustrate part of the cultural code of Russian emigration and immigration in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why is this happening to us? How can we find our way in a new country? What can we rely on and how can we overcome homesickness? The creators of the production reflect on all these complex questions, using the atmosphere of a Berlin cabaret theatre as an ally alongside Chekhov’s text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Text, music, choreography, video and costumes unite in the plot; they intertwine organically and complement each other, creating a unique image and a unique story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
